Microphone doesn't work on Skype under Debian Etch

I installed skype and it seemed to work well until I tried talking to my brother in Japan. I discovered that I could hear my brother but he couldn't hear me. I checked to see if my my micro was disabled but it wasn't. I'm currently using the alsa driver. Can someone help me on this? I really appreciate your help.

The configuration problem might be on Skype rather than your computer. Open Skype. Click the small "S" button (bottom left)>Options>Sound Devices. I had to change "Sound Out" and "Ringing" to the "hw" option. Make a test sound. Make a test call.
