Don't need a server, just run Virtual Box.

Metasploitable is not designed or intended to be run on bare metal or to be exposed on a network. Furthermore, this is an area in which exercising caution and doing your homework are essential.

I don't understand what you are saying, you can't run Kali as a VM?

I read thru the article:

Quote:

You can grab an ISO from www.kali.org, and then use it like any other distro. It also runs well in a virtual machine if you want to separate your penetration testing from your main desktop.
I've run Kali as a VM back in late 2011, haven't had time to get back to it, however it seemed to do ok.

I've gotten a number of hits back saying to install Kali as a VM.

A VM is not "bare metal." "Bare metal" is slang for "installed to and bootable from the hard drive." Running it from a VM is quite in keeping with Kali's intent.

Be careful with Kali. Misusing it can attract attention of the sort that one does not want.
