messengers not working
 

A few days ago all of my messenger clients, both gaim and kopete, stopped working. Gaim starts, but never connects to any of the accounts. Kopete freezes up when I try to connect. Since it started, I have both reinstalled gaim and installed the unix version of yahoo messenger, and both of these programs continue to not connect. All other aspects of the internet are working perfectly. I am just looking for suggestions on what the problem might be. Since they are all not working, I realize it's prolly not a problem with any of the programs, but I just don't know where to look next...
Any input is welcome.

I am on MEPIS. I am on the dorm network. Other than that, I don't know what else to tell you. I didn't do anything I can think of that would cause it, I wouldn't be surprised if I did something on accident but I can't think what it would be.

Do you get any error messages when you start them from a console?

I do not get any errors.

You say your in a dorm network? Could it be possible that the network technicians changed something to block that kind of traffic? Have you now got to go though a proxy to get on the internet?

Apart from that I have run out of ideas.

i have the same problem, i connect through a proxy can anyone explain to us how to configure the network section in gaim
