I tried to use knoppix.... but once it's up and loading... I get a message that says

Can't find Knoppix filesysytem, sorry. Dropping you to a (very limited) shell. Press reset button to quit.

Wow.. well everything in RHEL is working except my wireless card...

I haven't a clue whats happening, very starnge!

If you don't need windows on that machine I'd give up on it and forget it and try to get the wireless nic card working.

If you need windows I don't know what you can do

you said that the wireless card doesnt work properly on linux and the windows installer crashes when searching for hardware, so maybe the wireless card is making trouble?
i would remove the card and try installing windows again. if it is a physical card, remove it; if it's on-board, enter the bios setup, go to integrated peripherals and deactivate the wireless chip. that'll let you know if the wlan card is fried.

" at this point the only partitions are ones created by linux"

Please don't get upset if I don't understand this properly but in the above referenced post you say that the only partitions left are linux. Then a few posts down you say that the windows install CD won't boot. I can't see where there is anything for it to boot off of. Do you mean that it goes thru an installation and then won't boot? I agree with an earlier poster that you might get a dos disk, fdisk and then try to reinstall. I can also add that I have used PM7&8 at least a dozen times with no trouble.

Hi,
I understand the first poster's issues with reinstalling windows, because the same thing happened to me. Partition Magic

did a very good job indeed in screwing the windows XP I had on a Dell (not a laptop, though). So please, don't say PM works, it

just incidentally worked for you. I have version 8, BTW. Windows just did not want to install, because of hardware...Well just as he said.

Knoppix didn't help at all, either. Stopped and that's all. The only way I ciould find to reinstall XP, which I have happily gotten rid of

since, is to boot from a 10.1 Slackware install cd (first one), which let me use cfdisk or fdisk, don't remember to re-format the

whole thing, easily re-install XP, after re-sizing the partitions the way they were supposed to be by PMagic, and install Slack next.

So, I would advise the thread strater to d/load Slack 10.1, since he's got red hat working or nearly, provided he can access the web,

or order the cds.

Hope that helps
