Merge two HDD into One HDD !


Dear Friends ,

I have two HDD in my linux server (Redhat Ent Linux 5.4) . Each HDD is equal to 500 GB . Now I want to add two HDD so that I can use total 1000GB using a single partition .I mean , I want to use 1000GB with a single HDD or a single partition .

How can I do it ?

have you heard about LVM (logical volume manager)?

you could also use (software) RAID0. its very good, but it lowers reliability somewhat. (if either drive fails, you lose all data).

there is also unionfs, but it can only read, iirc. because it wouldn't know where to write.

edit: seems that LVM is similar to RAID
