mepis open and install downloads

i am obviously new to mepis and linux. i have downloaded emule for linux and it is sitting in MyDocuments. how do i open and install. it was so easy in windows. the book that came with my mepis cd does not touch on the subject of downloading programs from the internet.

You dont need to download the program like that. Seeing as Mepis is Debian based you should have a package manager, maybe synaptic, you should use that to install programs

Instead of downloading from source use the Package Manager - KPackage.

The book "Point and Click Linux!" by Robin "Roblimo" Miller deals with SimplyMEPIS. Chapter 24 covers Downloading and Installing Software.

First click the System Centre. Click on Package Manager. Choose "Use Internet". Click Apply.

Second click the K-Gear on your Control Panel. Go to the System submenu and call up KPackage.

Third, in KPackage click Special, chose Aptebian, chose "Update".

You shoould be able to see the Packages available and hopefully work it out from there.

Angry mepis open and install downloads

thanks to those who tried to help i used kpackage to no avail when i clicked install it asked for my root password but would not take it i could not even type it i am going back to windows mepis also doesnt recognize my sound card -soundblaster audigy4
