memory leak

Hi,

I am running RH9 2.4.20-9
256MB memory
1 CPU 1.3GHz

I have been searching the web and have not gotten to far. The used memory on my system continues to increase while, no major apps are running. I have read that Linux will use memory if it is free and not being used.

I rebooted my system and have been monitoring with top and vmstat. The top output initially started ~131000k. In the two hours I have been monitoring, it has increased to 192544k. Also vmstat shows "free" memory decreasing during that time period as well.

apache and mysql are both started and are using very little memory ~1% each and the CPU is 99.8% idle. If I start a mysql query, CPU, swap, and memory get maxed out.

I have ordered additional memory for the system, hoping that will solve my problem.

Could I be looking at a memory leak? If so, how do I go about finding/resolving it?

Thanks
mef
