Memory detection?!?!
 

I have a stick of 512mb of sdram, how can i find this out in linux, AND can i specify how much i have or scan for it again... My computer isn't detecting all of it or something....

or even when i'm booting up can i scan again or something??

i think i need this answere fast so as not to run my 15 day warranty out....

You can check in your bios, or use:

In a console to view info about your RAM. Also, depending on which distro you are using, there are alot of other options to see how much ram is getting recognized. To check the ram to see if it's good use:

OK it says i only have about 126, of 512....

i'm gonna try memtest soon.... any way to have it scan for the memory again, or specify my own???

Sure can, however is free reporting just that much free, or is that reporting the overall total amount? You should also look into your BIOS setup, it should list how much ram you've got there.

It just doesn't work.... Put in some ram from another machine and it was detected fine, so therefore the ram i have here is bad, i concur....

nothin to worry about, it was cruddy generic ram, and i'm still under warranty so i'll get some new ram wednesday!!

Ok, cool. However, you could still look into memtest86 to test the ram, it's very easy to setup, and then you'd have even more of a reason to return it (should it show errors).

they take it no questions asked, the cdrom drive appears to be not functioning also, so that means i can't boot into it...

made the cd already though....
