media player problems

alright, my buddy put linux on my computer before he went to jail, i really like it, but still have a rough time with it from time to time.

my current problem is that movies and music i play play for a bit, and then stop mid way through. first it starts skipping, and then it just stops, ive tried many media players and the problem is still there.

ive tried a bunch of diffrent media players, diffrent videos, nothing seems to work

i have fedora 11(i think, i know its fedora), im not sure what else you need to know

help please?

Hi Moses,
This is one of the greatest opening lines to a query of all time. ROTFL

It sounds like a sound driver issue. What sound card do you have and what driver are you using?

To find out what version of fedora you're using try typing this at a terminal:
Code:
cat /proc/version
To find out what sound card you have (if you don't already know)
Code:
lspci | grep audio
cheers,
jdk

This sounds like a ram issue .
What is the system ram ?

dose this happen for only a "store bought" dvd or including any you might have DL'ed from bittorrent.

it also might be a problem with libdvdccs if it is a dvd movie you bought

also mplayer ( gnome-media player) is known to have problems with movie dvd's
VLC is the recommended player for those
