media pc?
Hi,
I'm sorry if this is in the wrong place. I'm just wondering whether there is any kind of distro meant primarily to be the equivalent of a media pc. Thanks! |

for example, but I think there's a few more, have a look at http://www.distrowatch.org Cheers, Tink |
You can try Dynebolic.

There is of course: knoppmyth
Gentoo works great as well, they have current ebuilds for mythtv and many of the modules. Cool |
Thanks for the input. I am pretty new to linux (managed to get Mandrake up and running, but I figure that doesn't really get me any geek points...) - are any of these easier than others? For instance - plenty of docs about supported hardware, easy to set up, etc etc.
Cheers! |
I'm a newbie too and have never set up a MythTV system, but your post made me curious and I found this very detailed Anandtech article about setting up a MythTV system. It includes tips on hardware, dependencies, and other technical stuff. I thought you might be interested:

That looks great, thank for the tips everybody! I should have mentioned that I was mainly looking for TiVO functionality, so this MythTV looks pretty interesting.
Any suggestions for distros with native PVR card support? Cheers! |
Maybe you should take a look at Freevo, too.

Check out http://mythtv.info/moin.cgi/LinuxDistros
Shows how to Install Mythtv on more than 10 different Linux distros and different hardware Like PC's, MAC's and Xboxes This Easiest by far for mythtv is Knoppmyth. Enjoy! |
