meaning of hm &= macro


Can someone please tell me what this code segment translates to:

u16 hm;
hm &= PCI_BASE_ADDRESS_IO_MASK

in c++ or java it is bitwise AND. &= is just short version of hm = hm & PCI_BASE_ADDRESS_IO_MASK
