Question Mcrypt/Libmcrypt Installation on Mandrake 10

For the past 3 days or more I have been trying to install Mcrypt/Libmcrypt on Mandrake 10 so we can use it in PHP. I have searched all over google and have found many people have had problems doing this.

I am running ADVX (default Mandrake PHP/Apache configuration) and I am wondering how exactly I could go about stting up mcrypt/libmcrypt on my machine.

I have read several times that I may have to re-compile php but I have no idea how to go about doing this either.

If anybody can shed some light on this it would be greatfully appreciated.

Regards

Xandrake

I am having the same problem... I tried following the instruction scattered thinly around the web to no avail. When I run phpinfo() i get this configure command (yours should be the same):

'./configure' '--prefix=/usr' '--exec-prefix=/usr' '--bindir=/usr/bin' '--sbindir=/usr/sbin' '--sysconfdir=/etc' '--datadir=/usr/share' '--includedir=/usr/include' '--libdir=/usr/lib' '--libexecdir=/usr/lib' '--localstatedir=/var/lib' '--sharedstatedir=/usr/com' '--mandir=/usr/share/man' '--infodir=/usr/share/info' '--enable-discard-path' '--disable-force-cgi-redirect' '--enable-shared' '--disable-static' '--disable-debug' '--disable-rpath' '--enable-pic' '--enable-inline-optimization' '--enable-memory-limit' '--with-config-file-path=/etc' '--with-config-file-scan-dir=/etc/php' '--with-pear=/usr/share/pear' '--enable-magic-quotes' '--enable-debugger' '--enable-track-vars' '--with-exec-dir=/usr/bin' '--with-versioning' '--with-mod_charset' '--with-regex=php' '--enable-track-vars' '--enable-trans-sid' '--enable-safe-mode' '--enable-ctype' '--enable-ftp' '--with-gettext=/usr' '--enable-posix' '--enable-session' '--enable-sysvsem' '--enable-sysvshm' '--enable-yp' '--with-openssl=/usr' '--without-kerberos' '--with-ttf' '--with-freetype-dir=/usr' '--with-zlib=/usr' '--with-zlib=/usr' '--with-zlib-dir=/usr' '--without-pear'

My understanding is that I have to re-run this command, adding:
--with-mcrypt=/pathtomcrypt

but although this appears to work, phpinfo() still shows the same, and Mcrypt is still not working.

Yeah My phpinfo() reports exactly the same configuration line. I also read on google that php might need to be recompiled with that and the mcrypt line aswell.

But I dont know where mcrypt is located or where it installs to after I compile it.

BTW i also tried finding out about installing it as a module, but drew a blank. I had mcrypt working fine on IIS/winXP. I hoped that linux would save me headaches, not make me lose my hair!

Interestingly enough, I did the exact same thing. I Moved from Windows XP Pro with IIS and wanted linux for more performance gain.

Lol. The Time I have spent stressing over this, most of my hair has already fallen out.

I think I said mcrypt once or twice in my sleep last night aswell.

Get rid of whatever you've installed, and try these RPMs:

Ok i got those RPMS and installed them, but still phpinfo() has no mcrypt section. Do i also need to recompile PHP after I install those RPMs?

it's an external module so it won't appear in the "configure command"
try use
Code:
<?php
         print_r(get_loaded_extensions());
?>
and see if mcrypt is there, if it is then it should be working.
