Maya 5 For linux

I just installed Maya 5 for linux. When I run maya, it goes into the product setup app that it ususally goes to, but the window appears to have an infinite width.

If I run maya in a terminal, I get the following error several times:

QTextParagraph::lineInfo: line 27 out of range!
22 27

I had maya installed on linux before, and it worked fine, I'm not sure why it wont work now.

I'm running Gentoo Linux 1.4 RC4, Stage 1 with Gnome 2.0, Gentoo Dev Kernel 2.6.3.

Any help?

Thanks,

maya 5 for linux

Hi,

Where did you get Maya 5 for linux? I can't find it on their site to purchase, or download a trial version. The only linux thing on their site is the hardware requirements for running Maya 5 on RedHat. There is a dependency which you might want to check (search their site for linux).

I just did a google search for it. It definitely exists:

http://www.linuxjournal.com/article.php?sid=5235

It's pricey. I found a thread about this in a Serbian Linux forum, but they couldn't find a free download either. I'll keep looking, for sure, and post if I find anything.

I'm a noob when it comes to Linux. I know there are different versions, but which would be best to run Maya?

Well, i think i just found my answer...
http://tryoutlinux.com/best.html

Guess it would have to be LindowsOS for 3d apps and video, right?

What version are most studios running...such as Pixar?
