Massive instability problems
I'm going nuts. Just bought a new system, hardware seems fine, yet Linux will not stay up for more than 5 minutes.
My system is Celeron 2.66, Asus p5s800-VM motherboard, 256 mb RAM. I first installed Ubuntu 5.10, then removed it completely and installed VectorLinux SOHO 5.0.1. I have also booted the system with Knoppix and Puppy Linux. All have similar problems: windows randomly disappear, especially Firefox, KDE goes crazy, system hangs, and on Vector all open processes die (including sometimes KDE) and I am asked to login again. I have checked all the hardware to the best of my ability including HD, CPU and RAM. I have updated the BIOS. What is the problem??? thanks in advance mondy |
video driver / x problems
x is only stable these days if you know how to setup vidoe config to avoid all the unstable parts. |
Thanks foo. I think you might have hit the nail on the head. The main (but not only) symptom seems to be X spontaneously restarting.
Any tips on how to correctly configure x/video drivers? I'm very much a noob, any help appreciated. mondy |
