I could not find any trace of idconfig; but there is a ldconfig. That file is important.
Is this a new install from new CD's ? Did you run md5sum check before you burned teh CD's?
Here is a short part of the man page to give you an idea what ldconfig does.

If you are having problems copying the files from the install CD's I would get a set of know working ones first. The other option is to do the verification on each CD and burn a new set.
