Mandriva Screen Resolution Stuck on 800 x 600
 

Hello everyone, I'm a first time Mandriva user and am having a hard time changing my screen resolution. I go to "Configure Your Desktop" then "Display" and my only option for screen resolution is 800 x 600. How can I increase the resolution then?

Open up MCC ( Mandriva Control Centre ) click the Hardware tab, and then click 'Setup the graphical server'.

Make sure you have the correct graphics card and monitor selected. Press the Test button to see if your new selection will work. You get a Yes No option. If you don't see anything during the 'test', don't do anything. It is a timed test, and will go back to the last known working settings.

If that does not work, you will have to post the type of graphics card you have. Then we'll look into the driver you have loaded.

awesome that worked. thanks. only problem is now the task bar at the bottom doesn't extend the whole width. another problem i neglected to mention was that for some reason the desktop effects won't work either.

What desktop are you running? KDE ? XFCE ? Gnome?

KDE One Spring 2010 version.

Could you please be more specific, what desktop setting(s) are not working? Do you have compiz installed? Include a description of at least one that is not working, what you see, or don't see.

I got it all working now. Just had to update the graphics card driver. Thanks for your help Camorri.
