Unhappy Mandriva-Linux 0ne 2010.0 on Dell C800 Latitude notebook

I have successfully created a cd copy of Mandriva-linux one 2010.0 but when I run it on my Dell C800 Latitude notebook I get asked for user name and password. this does not happen when I use the CD in my Acer Aspire 6930G notebook.
The Dell is running Mandriva 2008 which I got from Linux Format magazine issue 102 February 2008 I would appreciate some help in this as it looks like I wont be able to run 2010 on this machine

it is may be because your hardware is locked. i cannot install win xp or older on my dell xps coz my hardware vendor don't allow me to. As you told that it is doing good with acer so just for try to get some other distribution like fedora/ubuntu. Most probably its your hardware which is giving problem. Google for it! check whether someone has installed linux on the same model of dell as you having. That could help.

it is because new notebooks since vista release have locked their SATA drives from installing XP into it. Seems your laptop donot have such problems.

if this is not the problem then boot through mandriva and dont make a mouseclicks/keystrokes until the desktop appears.. in an old versions of ubuntu, while booting through live disk it asked me for username and password as i made some mouse gesture during boot process. i never tried mandriva though! try this, as you told it works with acer then it should work with dell also!

Is it the copy of Mandriva that is asking for the username/password? Or is it at a BIOS screen? How far into it does this happen?

I boot computer from cd and the boot proceeds correctly until immediately after the list of items and procedure that have been installed by the boot process and a black login screen shows asking for localhost login

Mandriva linux Release 2010.0 (official) for i586
Kernel 2.6.31.5-desktop586-1mnb on an i686/ttyl
localhost login:

The above did not occur when I tried this cd on them

Mandriva 2010 will not run on my C800 latitude because the computer does not
have the capability to run the larger newer versions

Quite, but that doesn't really explain the login.

Still, good to see your reinstall worked
