I got a set of CD's with the Special Edition Get Started with Mandriva Linux pub'd by Linux Format. I think it may by a hardward problem as I put the pc together out of a load of "Odds-n-sods" from my girlfriends dad.
I dont have the full error msg at hand as I'm writing this in work but it happens shortly after the CD boots, it may take me a day or two but I will post it as I am doing this for my girlfriend!
The PC is already a dual boot (win98 & FC3), could that be contributing to the problem?
OK, it has taken quite some time for me to get this but here goes.
I place the disk into the drine and it boots (usually after several attempts).
#boot: *enter*
Does the usual hardware detection and goes on to start the install when a box pops up saying;
Error
Fatal error finishing initialisation

I would have taken down the kernel message aswell, but that would have taken too long and I really could not be arsed to do it!!!
This is just an FYI but I got the same exact error while trying to install from some iso's I downloaded yesterday. I was able to install slackware with no problem but mandriva is supposed to be a starter OS which is why I wanted that one.
