Mandriva IInstallation Issuee

I purchased and downloaded Mandriva to use on my Macbook pro via Parallel Desktop. Everytime I try to install it I get an 'error' message. I even burned the iso file to a DVD and tried installing Mandriva that way, but the same result the installation stops. I'm new to Linux and is very much in need of some assistance. I must note that after a few fail attempts, I downloaded and install Ubuntu and Linspire both installation went seamlessly and worked smoothly using Parallel desktop on my Macbook. Is it possible that Mandriva is not designed to work with Parallel Desktop?

Desperate....

Since you don't say what the "error" message is, how can we know? And if you've got Ubuntu up and running, why do you need Mandriva?

I'll have to agree overall with TB0ne... We need a bit more information.

I myself have been able to get Mandrake/Mandriva working in various VM environments. Although I must say, VMWare Fusion is sooo much better than Parellels. I'm a MacBook Pro user myself, and I've tried Parellels and in comparison, it sucks. But thats a discussion for another time.

First off, what is the error message you are receiving? Are you using the x86 images of Mandriva? The MacBook Pro's Core2Duo uses native i386 architecture, not IA64 like some think they do.

Essentially its very simple. Just install BootCamp to enable multi booting, then use an i386 architecture distro image. I myself have used Ubuntu x86 mostly. Prior to Apple going all i386 with the Core2Duo's, you'd always have to use YellowDog, as it was the only really functional PPC (PowerPC) architecturally support distro. Now since Apple ditched PPC Sony started using them in PS3's.
