Mandriva 2009 starts installation and then monitor starts rolling showing color lines

I received the Mandriva 2009 cd's last week and attempted to install on a Compaq Deskpro with no operating system on it. The Installation loaded the Linux kernel and then started the process of installing. Suddenly my monitor started rolling showing white, brown, blue lines. This happened several times. Finally I went to another computer that has Windows ME loaded on it. The cd booted fine and then it did the same thing and the lines appeared on the second monitor. Finally, OSDisc. com thought that the disk might be bad and sent me two more disks. I then started to install off of the new disks and the same thing happened. Is there something that might cause this that you know about? Two different monitors, two different computers, same symptom.

Thanks for any help,

Hubert Hickey

I had the same problem with 2009 on an older Pentium 3 with a crappy ATI Rage 128 Pro video card. I redownloaded and reburned it and it seemed to work fine.

It is possible that all three discs are bad, especially if they all came from the same lot.

Does it always happen at the same time in the install process?
Try ctrl+alt+F1 when that happens.
Then launch drakx11

Drakx11

Agrouf,
I entered the keys you suggested, immediately the rolling bars stopped and then drakx11 appeared. I keyed in 'help' and got the list of commands, but I am at a loss as to how to use them. What do I do next? It has been 13 years since I did any UNIX stuff.

When I get drakx11, there is nothing to accept, when I enter service dm start, it says 'service: not found'.
Since no installation occurred, it this why I am not getting what you are suggesting?
