Unhappy Mandriva 2008 sring install question


Hello, I have to 2 hard drives.Xp win in on the primary drive and I want to install Mandriva 2008 spring on the second hard drive. Now where should I install the bootloader? first time I got Grub error 22 ?? I could not boot to XP? please any advise will help go through this and I want to duel boot Both XP and Linux? thx

You should install grub on the drive that contains XP, and that should be your primary drive.

Linux doesn't care where you boot it from; Windows does care.

I did as you said still when I did reboot it went sraight to mandriva? is this has to do with NTFS? thx jim

Have you tried installing to the Master Boot Record? That's what i had to do with mine...

there needs to be an entry in /boot/grub/menu.lst to boot Windows XP. Take a look at that file, and print it out here so we can look at it.

Also print out the results of fdisk -l

Also print out the contents of /boot/grub/device.map (if it exists).

thank you all. the only that I wiped out every thing now and I have installed XP back. See, I have not had these problem with Ubuntu and Kubuntu Live CD;s,and I was able to boot from both.
