Mandriva 2006
 

Just installed Mandriva 2006 Free and it went very smooth. Once i went to Startx i recieved an error:
execve failed for /etc/X11/x ( er 02 or somthing) Any ideas what i did wrong?

After further research i found it to be a video problem.

If the machine boots ok to the command line, you can try re-configure the video settings as root user ( su - ) .
Use the command: XFdrake
Test the settings while in that utility.

what graphics card do you have? In anay case follow homey suggestions and set the diplay to vesa, and generic display with 1024x768 (@60Hz), this way you will at least get into the GUI, and load the correct drivers (nvidia, ati, or intel integrated graphics chipsets.

Set to Vesa and res and all is good. It has an onboard video card with no info but the vesa works. biggest problem is the refresh rate 75 seems to killing my eyes but i guess i just have to leave it. I also may try some other generics and see if i can get anything better to work will post if i do. Thanks for your help at least its up and running.
