Mandrake PROBLEM!!
 

ok i've been having a MAJOR problem with mandrake.

I have Windows XP and I just installed Mandrake, so I restarted my computer, chose linux from LILO and everything was going good untill it got to "Loading soft_audio.... " or something like that , it was "Loading (something)_audio " , and it just freezes there, doesnt load, just stays there.....

So I asked some people what the problem could be and they say I may of chosen the wrong sound card, but my sound card is an intergrated one, So I dont know what kind I have , So is there a way I can just disable sound so Mandrake doesnt give me this problem...?

If you can get it to boot, goto Mandrake Control Center. You get there by clicking on the 'Control Center', start in windoze, then Configuration/Mandrake Control Center. Put in your root password. When it comes up click on 'Hardware' on the left and 'Harddrake' on the right. It should look like a PCI card. You should get a list of hardware, just click on the soundcard line then click 'Runconfig Tool' on the far right at the bottom. You should be able to configure your sound from there. If you don't know what kind it is just goto your motherboards website and get the specs. It should tell you the info you need.

If it doesn't boot, post back. Maybe someone can tell you how to get past that or I can find something.

Mandrake is great, you'll like it.

No, the problem is that it cant boot, it freezes when its loading some sound device which im sure is my sound card.

Try 'failsafe'
 

Remember this command, 'shutdown -r now'. If you can boot into failsafe you may get a GUI or you may not. If you get a text login just type in your username and password then type 'startx'. If that works try the other post. If not, and you are logged in just type in 'exit' and you will be back at a login. Login as root, with your password, and type in the shutdown command above. Post what you get. We'll bang on it some more.

The root is because some installs will only allow root to shutdown from command line.
