Mandrake Localhost ligin prob
I am a newbie at this and found you guys so I figured I would post a quick question.
> I just got Mandrake Linux 10.1.
> I installed the product on a 30 GB partition and all went well.
> I rebooted the system and the lilo boot APP showed up.
> I chose the linux.
> Mandrake's Blue screen appeared and started to load the OS.
> PROBLEM: After loading up, the screen brings me to a DOS prompt and asks me for localhost login:
If I do type my login name, it brings me to a password prompt. ("I didn't create a password for my normal account during installation.") " I then press enter and get, "can't retrieve profile." I even tried my root password.
1.) I am not on a network
2.) I didn't creat any security login account.
I feel I am missing something very simple, but I don't know what it is.
If anyone knows, please let tell me.
Login as root and type "passwd <name of account you created>" (no quotes, replacing <name of account you created> with the user name of the account you created during install. This will allow you to set a password for your account. Having accounts with no passwords is not a good idea at all, so you should set one. Then, login to your normal account and type "startx" (again no quotes) to try to get the graphical interface up. If it reports an error, try to figure out what is wrong or post back here.
AAAGHH!! Its not a 'DOS Prompt' :)
Seriously though its a Linux shell, completely different from DOS. Anyway see this guide about how to get X working if it fails: http://doc.mandrivalinux.com/Mandrak...ubleshooting-x
