Mandrake Linux will not load NIC Card


I have Mandrake linux and it will not load my NIC card. It finds it and installs it but I cant get conneced to the NET. I have a AMD 2600 with a soyo motherboard, that has the VIA chipset.

I have the same problem. Basically what i do is :

ifdown eth0 (this releases the IP addy of the car)

ifup eth0 (this gets a new IP for the card)

and this solves my problem - hopefully it will solve yours. Also i wrote a script with these commands and put it in Autostart to make shit easier.

What does your setup look like?

Are you using a router?

Are you setting up your system with a static IP address (pernament) or dynamic IP address (temporary)?

If you have not gone through Mandrake Control Center. Go there and click on Network & Internet. Then click on Connection. Go through the wizard. Make sure you select bootp or dhcp. Though, your router have to be setup as a DHCP server in order for your system to get a dynamic IP address.

Just giving us just the chipset and processor does not help. We need to know your NIC brand and model.
