Mandrake Linux Installation

Hi Everyone,
I'm a newbie and this is my first post. I have installed Mandrake Linux 10.1 on a VMWare virtual machine and everything went fine with no errors but when it finished, and rebooted, my screen was divided into 4 quarters. The top 2 quarters had a login prompt but the writing is so small I can't really read it. I was expecting a graphical use interface. Have I done something wrong? Can anyone help?
Thanks,
Jim.

4 quarters? Are they all giving the same output?

Try command: X

Jerry,
Yes the top 2 quarters are giving the same output the bottom 2 are unreadable! What is command X and how do I try it?
Thanks,
Jim.

X invokes the x-server (graphical desktop)

In the command line type 'X' (without' ')

Also check if the graphic card is detected or not:

Try command: 'dmesg' and scroll over, your graphics card should be somewhere

Jerry,
Entering X does something but unfortunately the writing is so small I can't read it. I think I'll have to try and re-install or something.
Thanks for your help anyway.
Regards,
Jim.
