Mandrake Launch Program Global Hotkey?
I use mandrake linux, I would like to be able to launch programs with a simple keyboard command...
As an example, I use KHotKeys to control XMMS play... on keyboard input I have it send console commands like "xmms -p" and such... They all work fine. However, I would like a command to start XMMS... When I make a command for it (Ctrl - 1 for example), I have it launch the command "xmms" however, it doesn't work... Neither does the "Keyboard Shortcuts" item in the KDE Accessability menu... Neither will launch XMMS. I used XMMS as an example, however neither of them will launch programs... Am I missing a step in here someplace? Do I need to set them and then restart KDE? |
If you go into the menu editor, ( right click K and select Menu Editor ) then select the program you want a short cut for. At the bottom is a keyboard shortcut button. You can use that.
It will show up in KHotKeys as well. You can set them from here buy defining a new action and selecting the action type as K-Menu Entry. |
I dont see a keyboard shortcut option anywhere in the menu editor... and in KHotKeys, I see multiple items to launch (With the K-Menu Entry) but none of those work...
Am i missing a plugin perhaps? |
What version of KDE are you using?
|
The one packaged with Mandrake 10.0 Official
KDE 3.2 |
Then it should be there, its a part of the application. There should be a shortcut button in the bottom right hand corner. If probably just say none at the moment simply click it. ( maybe you might have to scroll ).

nope, definately no button anywhere in there...
not that i can see... |
Which is strange. as it is standard part of KDE. unless Mandrake Changed it...
