Mandrake-Installation-Network Devices

Hey there again!

Last problem resolved.
New one found.

She can not get on the net, were on adsl?
I can? im going through a cat 5 cable to the modem/roughter and she is going through her USB port to it (theres only option for a usb and lan in this particular model modem).

Whats is it we are supposed to do? Is it a must we do the DNS?
I cant ping anyone from konsole.

She has mandrake 9.2 by the way? Anyinfo would be great.

Please provide more info on the hardware (dsl modem, router, and NICs). We could also use more info on the actual setup.

DSL modem connected to internet.
Router connected to DSL modem via network cable.
PC#1 is connected to router via network cable.
PC#2 is connected to what through USB port? Is it a USB NIC? This is where I'm lost.

Also, please post the output of lsmod on PC#2.

Thank you.

Her pc is connected through her usb port to the usb port in the roughter/hub.
Mine is going directly in to the LAN port.

She has no NIC card and cant seem to get her pc on the net ( we typed in the dns and all that) and dosent do a thing.

IWe can not find drivers because we thought that might have been the problem.
For some reason i have maintained access the whole time even tho the roughter software and all that was on her PC.

As for Ismod i typed it in konsole and it didnt recognise the command ? assuming that is what i was supposed to do?.

Were both running mandrake 9.2.

(its funy, i was never prompted about setting up my lan or adress or anything- i clicked on mozila after the install and i was bang- on the net) - yet she was prompted?.

The Modem is a Netcomm NB1300 wich says on the box it suports linux.
We are going Through Iprimus ?

Ok it was lsmod not ismod

-Edit-
I went in to the Root console and typed Ismod and it still dosent recognise that command.
Then i tried Modprobe CDCether and it reported "Couldent locate module"
But that was on this PC, and this PC is on the net?

Case makes all the difference.

Try modprobe CDCEther as root and see what happens.

CDCEther Reports the module not found error as stated in my last post.
What do you think it would be.
Are we screwed and is there no possible way we are going to get this on the net unless we buy an Ethernet card?

Hollerith says:

RedHat GNU/Linux 2.4.20-27.9

CDCEther.c: 0.98.6 7 Jan 2002 Brad Hards and another
usb.c: registered new driver CDCEther
CDCEther.c: Ethernet information found at device configuration using it anyway

Ummm goto the mandrake site, download the draktools update so u can configure the usb net connection through the gui, or write your config file.

I think:

Is there a performance difference between NIC and usb?

use CDCEther that came with RedHat GNU/Linux 2.4.20-27.9
dmesg
insmod
