Mandrake Installation Errors

Hello,

I am having trouble installing Mandrake Linux 8.2. I downloaded hd.img and Mandrake82-cd1-inst.i586.iso so I could install from my hard drive since I don't have a CD burner. I am trying to install onto a hard drive with Windows already on it, and I set up the partitions correctly. Everything goes fine except when I go to install the packages. It usually gets to about 40% complete and then gives an error that it couldn't install something correctly. When I click to go on anyway, another error for the next package pops up right after it. This continues throughout the rest of install packages, so I just set something on my keyboard to hold the enter key down so it keeps trying to go on. Then the rest of the install goes alright. I can log in, but so many things did not get installed right that I cannot start X or anything. I used md5sums to check that the download was not corrupted, and it checks out fine. If you can help be that'd be great.

[PS: I will be away from my computer this weekend so I will not be able to reply back to anyone until Sunday night or Monday.]

Thanks,
Jesse Merriman

Re: Mandrake Installation Errors

Hi,

Since I am not installing from a cd, it never asked me to specify which cd's I have. I have tried reinstalling a couple of times, and now I am able to start X, KDE, Gnome, and many other programs, but there are things missing. I have been trying to go back to the install and select 'Upgrade Packages Only', but for almost everything, I get an error before installation finishes, and packages do not get installed. The errors are like this:

There was an error installing packages:

libxml2-utils-2.4.16-2mdk.i586

Go on anyway?

No matter what package first gives an error, all other packages after it give similar errors and are not installed.

Safrout is right- most of the package goodies are on the 2nd CD; the first CD is the base install. Download the CD2 image to the same location as the first and see if the install recognizes it.
