Mandrake Install Hang

Hi guys, hopefully this problem has been seen before and someone can help. I've booted up the mandrake 9.1 Disk 1 to install on my machine.

I select F1 for other options as I don't have Mandrake already exisiting on my computer. The textual install option page comes up, and says usually just pressing enter will be fine. I did this and my monitor goes blank and the lights on my keyboard flash. The system just hangs and I have to do a restart.

I then tried the other options such as linux and the low graphical one and the same problem occured. Does anybody know what the problem could be?

Cheers

So the issue is my 1 GIG of memory?

if you have 1GB of memory, Yes. It's a bug in the installer. The link I gave you should help you further.

If the Mandrake installation program is hanging you might want to try some other distro instead. I have a motherboard with some unusual hardware which causes the installation programs for some distros to hang or not work properly. The installation program for Red Hat 9 the the first one that worked properly. On my computer it seems to be the 8 IDE ports with 2 seperate built-in controllers that create the compatibility problems for some versions of some distros. Most of thosel those distos would install fine on my old computer but not my newer one.

You might want to just see if you have better luck with another distro unless you have a strong preference for Mandrake.

I typed linux vga=0 as the install option and it is working ok now, looks yucky but is working.

Well I'm up and running everyone.

So if there are graphics issus with the Mandrake install,

use the above method and everything will be sweet. And also for all the new people like me, if you check the multimedia, games and cocumentation tab you WILL need disk 3!!

Cheers
