I recently purchased Mandrake to get me goin since I could never get Slakware to configure X properly for my ancient rig.Guess what..YES new problems!I need to throw a module up in there to drive my CDRom (Phillips CM206 attached to a Media Vision sound card)I conquered this challenge with Slakware so Im not totally lost, however Mandrake doesnt seem to be packed with the documentation and modules ol'Slak wuz.Can I take the module from my Slak disc and patch it to my mandrake boot disk,if so,how? Also at a point during installation it asks what driver to install for the CD,after this is asks for parameters to pass on to the kernel, now what is the syntax for giving these parameters the only thing I knew to try was 0x340,11(port#,IRQ) and variations on this but nothing helps, please understand my level of newbieism and try not to lose hope!
as brief as aussie's reply was, it is right... kinda. that file is there, IF you've installed the source rpm on the mandrake cd. Actaully, i think it'll be /usr/src/linux-*kernel number*/.........
mind you, that's still not tellnig you how to use stuff... i'm just tellign you where that file is from.
I know very little about linux at this point ,installing the source rpm sounds like something I need to do to my truck!I did see all the rpm packages on the disc so I guess Ill tinker with them although I have no idea how to install just that part.Acually most of my problem is I cant break out of the auto install to get a command prompt if I type 0 to canel install it just ignores me and asks again. It may be worth mentioning I have the single disc deal not 7 disc super pack.
