For some reason my sound card is detected and using the same driver my fc2 box uses and my sound works. I do not think it is a driver problem but i know a lot of distros come with the sound muted. There is a command (cant remember for the life of me) lets u un-mute and adjust sound.
errr. after a quick su i get it up and running. Problem is it cant find my sound card >< its a sound blaster and when i installed linux it found it just fine now it cant find it with alsa ???

It looks like you may have the wrong modules loaded. Is the machine a dell? I ask because the card that is detected by lspci is usually a dell oem card. Have a look at this.
