Mandrake dvd+r

I tried to install Mandrake Linux on a brand new 80GB hard drive today, however directly after partitioning I get an "internal arror" or something.

Not really sure what that is, looks as though its having trouble accessing packages or somthing!?

Anyway if anyone knows whats wrong or has any advice, it'll be well recieved.

Thanks!!

Where did you get the Mandrake CD's from? Did you download and burn them yourself? If yes, did you check the MD5 sums for each CD??? ( Just so you know, a MD5 sum is a "hash" total of all the bytes on the CD. If a file is corrupt on download, the MD5 sum will never match. )

If you bought the CD's, take a look for scratches. Sometimes you can polish the scratch out enough to get it to work.

It would also be helpful if you stated the version you are trying to install. Then you will get much more specific help.

I downloaded the dvd+r from mandrakelinux.com and it is 10.1
Yes I did download and burn the disk myself, burnt it with "Ultraiso" Tried to do a md5 hash check with "md5hash" nothing happened. what should I use to do a md6hash check??

I am unfamiliar with Ultraiso. That is not necessarily a problem. You will find instructions at this link

http://linuxiso.org/viewdoc.php/isofaq.html for burning and checking MD5summs. There is a Windoze tool for doing the MD5sum. Once that program has calculated the MD5sum, you have to look at the Mandrake site ( there are others ) for the MD5sum that is correct. Do a visual comparison. My experience has shown me if there is a problem, the two MD5sums are quite different.

Note there are also instructions for burning the ISO images.

Once you have good CD's, and if you still have trouble installing, post back with details of any error messages you receive, and the point of failure. I had some difficulty with pre-release MDK 10.1. It would not recognize my CDrom, part way through the install.

Good luck...
