Mandrake download

What do I need to download for a basic install of Mandrake 10? I want the GUI, to program, and useful apps (such as The GIMP and GAIM).

trickykid 04-26-2004 05:19 PM

Download the whole iso to burn to cdr so you can install it.. www.linuxiso.org is one of the more popular sites to download distro's and their iso files. And then just do a custom install so you only install what you want and need, etc.

I checked there, but they don't have the 10.0 official version.

Do you know what to use on the Mandrake mirrors? listed on website of Mandrake

jsanders 04-26-2004 05:22 PM

The public mandrake 10 is not out yet, only club members have it, the one on the site is the community edition.

bluewall21 04-26-2004 05:28 PM

It says official in the screenshot. Look for yourself. Mandrake 10.0

vectordrake 04-26-2004 06:42 PM

Official can only be preordered on disk right now unless you're a member of Mandrake Club. Then you can download "Official". If you download "Community" and go to the easyurpmi site and arrange for some download mirrors, you can upgrade to "Official". The screenshot is just a screenshot.

You can get Mandrake Official from their own mirrors freely after they release it as public consumption, which is supposed to be sometime next month.

you could download the bittorrents from supernova.org

bluewall21 04-27-2004 03:22 PM

No, you can download them if you will join. And I probably will, if I like the software. Now I just need to figure out what I need to download.

vectordrake 04-27-2004 04:34 PM

10 community. all 3 cds. point your updates to an official folder on a mirror. update your system, including the kernel. "Welcome to Mandrake 10.0 Official"

Done.

bluewall21 04-29-2004 09:40 AM

Thanks, I never thought of that.

I booted from the Boot.iso found on the FTP. Which installation should I use? (Network HTTP, Network FTP, Network NFS, CD-Rom, or Hard Drive Disk)

Also, what else do I need to download for the graphical install with extra software.

vectordrake 04-30-2004 12:02 AM

Sounds like you're gonna have to pick either ftp or http, then. OR you could download the 3 disk isos from the images directory and install from them. Your choice.

bluewall21 04-30-2004 03:44 PM

There is only one iso on the FTP sites.

Do I need to specify the whole address for the FTP install?

vectordrake 04-30-2004 07:07 PM

ftp://ftp.proxad.net/pub/Distributio.../iso/10.0/i586

Go there. 3 cds of MDK CE. Point your sources at Official (get the new kernel too). Update. Good to go.

OR you could wait about 2 weeks and get the official isos

or join mandrakeclub...

Never mind, I found a mirror with official Mandrake 10 .isos
