If you use a proxy to connect to you ISP's gateway, pay attention at the proxy configuration of your linux browser (mozilla, konqueror, etc) because at internet exploder you just have to type the host name (proxy.pandora.be on port 8080) but in linux browser's you have to put the protocol first (http://proxy.pandora.be:8080) otherwise it won't work.

Setup IP masquading or try using one NIC. Then run /usr/sbin/drakconnect.
Run linuxconf in GUI too.

Also have Mandrake boot in runlevel 3. You can do that by typing LINUX 3 at the bootloader screen. Look for services and disable the ones that you dont need. You can always go into GUI by typing startx.

Look into firewall programs like IPtables or something better.

What exactly are the correct settings?

And to the previous posters -> thanks I'll try that... it's really annoying at the moment, I start up the console for example and it takes a full minute or so to appear. When it does, it runs at full speed, it's just the starting up. No HD activity, which would seem normal.

If you have other computers on your network to get an IP address automatically. You may want to setup a DHCP server on LINUX.

Also what does route -e say. I think route is in /sbin.

I have the same problem with my system. I got a few IP addresses that is applied to my system. One for my physical connection. The other is for VMWARE. Before I did something, the console was slow. After I went into Linux Conf, something got corrected. Don't know for sure. I'll look through my logs.

Also you may want to install some server wizards. They may help.

eth0 is your connection to the internet or ISP. This also know as WAN. eth1 is the connection to your LAN or internal network.

Some ISP uses hostname to let their customers in. You may want to specify the hostname that your ISP gave you.

I'll keep researching. One of these days, I may have the same problem.

pandora cable problems

I have the same problem, the same cable provider in the same country and also Windows XP installed on a second harddrive. The problem occurs only when I've started Windows that same day. So it doesn't occur every time.
