mandrake 9 starts in text mode
i got mandrake 9 installed on my computer, and all my dual booting works fine. However, it wont go into KDE or X, it just goes into text/command line interface mode.
i tried typing 'startx' and it comes back with a 'fatal server error: no screens found' it also says '(EE) Radeon(0): No valid mode for this DFP/LCD' '(EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration. i am running an ati radeon 7000 64MB AGP multi-display graphics card with a viewsonic 19 inch CRT Flat Panel monitor. Please help!!! :( |
Try logging in as root and running:
XFdrake to configure your hardware. |
well, i decided to try reinstalling mandrake, figured i had nothing to lose. when it gets to the configure x section, and i try to set my video card to ATI Radeon - or any other item for that matter - it comes back with the following:
An Error Occured (EE) Problem parsing the config file (EE) Error from xf86HandleConfigFile() Try to change some parameters tell me something good...please... |
I experience exactly the same problem, I get these two
(EE) Problem parsing the config file (EE) Error from xf86HandleConfigFile() plus the "no screen fatal error"... My first boot under Gnome went OK, but I could access X interface only once! I'm stuck here... |
yeah...i gave up on mandrake and went to redhat9, its pretty good...
|
I solved it with XFdrake.
I chose vendors/ati/radeon for the video card and chose a correct resolution, and everything went OK...odd. |
