Mandrake 9.2 Won't Boot!!!

Hello,
I have a 2.6Mhz P4 with 2GB Ram with Microsoft XP.Last week i had suse 9.1.Now I installed Mandrake 9.2.I simply select linux from the menu and it starts booting but never ends.I believe it may be because of the graphics(i set the graphics to 1024X768 and 16Million colors). Here is what it says during the boot:

Starting portmapper:
touch: cannot touch '/var/lock/susys/portmap': Read - only file system
Starting System logger:

and it waits for ever...

Any help would be appreciated.
Tahnk you very much.
