Mandrake 9.2 installation freeze. PLEASE HELP!
New to Linux. Trying to install Mandrake 9.2 (2.4.22- 10mdk). Process freezes when attempting to find Adaptec 2940U2/W SCSI controller driver. I know there are issues with aic7xxx drivers but i dont now how to fix or repair drivers or kernel. Any help is extremely appreciated. :newbie:

I'm having a similar problem:
I am attempting to install "Discovering Linux" (9.2) on a Compaq Presario 5630 (PII, 128MB, new 60GB Hitachi hard drive, Adaptec disk controller on motherboard). When I start the installation disk 1, I immediately get an error message: insmoding module at aic7xxx failed at /usr/bin/perl-install/modules.pm line 408 After hitting "OK" the installation goes ahead for a bit, but then comes back with another error message and bug report: * cannot open shell - /tmp/sh doesn’t exist * loading modules dependencies * PCMCIA: probing PCI bus.. not found * PCIMCIA: probing for Intel PCIC (ISA) not found * PCMCIA: probing for Databook TCIC-2 (ISA) not found * no pcmcia adapter found * trying the autmoatic recovery of oem installs * have to insmod sd_mod * needs scsi_mod * needs sd_mod succeeded sd_mod * PCI: device 9004 5800 ffff ffff is “Adaptec1AIC-5800”, driver is aic7xxx * have to insmod aic7xxx * needs aic7xxx * init_module: aic7xxx: No such device failed * warning, insmod failed (aic7xxx (null)) (1) * unsetting automatic * PCI: device 8086 7112 ffff fff is “”,, driver is usb-uhci * have to insmod usb-uhci * needs usbcore * needs usb-uhci succeeded usb-uhci * have to insmod usb-storage succeeded usb-storage * have insmod usbkbd * needs input * needs usbkbd succeeded usbkbd * have to insmod keybdev * needs keybdev succeeded keybdev After installation is complete, the system refuses to boot. |
