Hi, I am making my first attempt at Linux. I am trying to install Mandrake 9.2. on a dedicated hard drive and system Everything moves along nicely until the partitioning section. I chose to erase the entire disk and when it is formatting hda6 I get an error and it kicks me back to the choices again. When I choose erase entire disk this time the install hangs completely while formatting hda6.
The HD is a WD20gb and it is the second one I've encoun tered this problem with the first one is not even recognized by the BIOS now on boot.
First, how do I solve this problem and get MAndrake installed?
Second, is the other HD shot? Can I reformat and still use it? The drive does not indicate any failure and now the other one I have is exhibiting the same behavior.
I appreciate any help anybody can send my way.
Finally, I have read and researched Linux extensively and am very excited to finally get control back again! I am fairly computer literate in Windows and I feel like I have no clue who has control MS or me.
Thanks for your patience with a noob. I am going to dig in and get this!!
