Mandrake 9.2


Need some help,Hope somebody can help! I installed Mandrake 9.2 on my computer. It seemed to install fine.When I tried to log in I entered name then password.Nexted I got a message with $ at the end. I entered startx like redhat it didnt work.Got a message execue failed for /etc/x11/x (errno 13).Please , can someone help? Would like to log in for the first time! Thank you!

Ok my friend. I'll be nice and help you. That "message with a $" at the end is your prompt. (in dos it's a c:\> ) you can execute commands from there. Startx is a nice one to get into graphics. I also like 'kdm'. It will put up a graphical log in. Here's what you do: Log in as root. type 'xf86config'. Follow the directions and afterward you can either run kdm (you have to be root for that) or use startx. Then you can enjoy some graphical linux goodness.

Sounds like you are missing some xserver packages (that last 'x' in the message was probably an uppercase 'X'?)...
