Mandrake 9.1 Very slow

Hi, Using Mandrake 9.1. If you look at my specs below I don't understand why everything is running so slow. I installed the nvidia nforce2 drivers and the geforce 3 ti drivers as well. Any other tips to get my machine running quickly?

Thx in advance. By the way i'm very new at this, installed it for the first time two days ago.

Athlon Barton 3000+ 200mhz Fsb
Msi K7N2 - L Mobo
2*256 DDR 400 Ram
2*40 gig IBM harddrives
onboard audio
onboard lan

P.S. I have a creative SB live card installed in my computer but I dont use it. Could it be the cause of the slowness since I have two sound cards?

Thx

Post Ideas?

I bet when you boot there is a lot of stuff scrolling up the screen. Those are services that run in the background. Find out which ones you don't need and disable them. That will speed you up a bit.

Which ones you disable will depend on what hardware you have and use.

Maybe someone can tell you which ones to disable. You can see what is running by going to Control Center, like start in windoze, then Configuration then Mandrake Control Center. Click on System then DrakX services. You can click on 'info' for some info. Never cleared up the mud for me though.

Still waiting on 9.2 myself.
