mandrake 9.1 internet problem

alright.... someone already posted this problem once... but the answer they recieved did not work for me.

so here is my problem. I just installed Mandrake 9.1. Installation went fine. But the internet doesnt work. Now i read in the other post that there is a bug in the firewall. So i uninstall the firewall. Still doesnt work.

Now... i am verymuchso a newb.. so if i could get a specific link to an update of sorts, or just a better explaination of what to do, it would be much appreciated. Thanks

You didn't install the developmental packages? As root, command:
urpmi gcc
An Introduction to the Midnight Commander. You can install it by commanding:

sorry... my bad. I have a cable connection through a LAN with 1 other computer (running windows 98) on the network.
