mandrake 9.1 install error

I downloaded the 9.1 version of mandrake. I burned the iso onto a cd and tried to start up. At first it works until i select install then the following message is displayed.
"Could not compress second step ramdisk, probably Hardware error while reading data (may be caused by hardware failure or linux kernel bug)"
Does anyone know what this means? is the this version not compatible with my hardware?
i've got a PIV 1.7Ghz
120GB Western digital with 15Gb formatted as ext2.
80Gb WD with win2000 installed
256 Mb ram
Nvidia FX5200

you need more than 1 partition for linux
you need at least a root partition and a swap partition

and use ext3, it's better than ext2

(don't know if this will sort your problem)
