Mandrake 9.1 Auto Installed Bootloader without asking??

Last night, I was attempting to install Mandrake 9.1 and all seemed well, until it got down toward the end of the install. Typically distros ask you how you want to boot...i.e. if you want to install on the MBR (bad idea if you have Windows XP and NTFS, or install on a floppy. I saw an article on the internet on Mandrake 9.1 install, and it seemed to stop and give you this option.

However, when it installed last night, it AUTOMATICALLY chose to install LILO on the MBR on my master drive, which of course, led to a late night (early morning) reinstalling Windows, because Linux programs havent figured out how to work with Windows quite yet.

That aside... was there some option I took earlier in the install that inadvertantly chose this option for me so I couldnt choose a floppy install?

Thanks,
Kork

Yes it does... and another thing I noticed when I used Mandy 9.1 is that even if you specifically choose to install on a partition, it'll still install on the MBR.

You reinstalled Windows just because of this? Heh, next time just boot from a Win98 rescue disk and run fdisk /mbr... Not graceful... but problem solved nontheless.

And another thing... use bootpart to switch OSs from the Windows OS selection menu.

Well that does it...Im done with Linux then.

Its just not quite ready for home use I suppose. Im disappointed but I suppose I will have to get another box. I've had so much trouble with RH9 on my box...thats why I was trying Mandrake to see if it was better. But if it automatically overwrites the MBR..thats pretty short sighted on their part, especially since alot of people dont want to mess up their windows install.

Anyway..thanks for all your help.

Kork
