Mandrake 9.0 Dual CPU Support

Hello, I am a real Linux newbie so please bear with me. I was given an older Tyan dual cpu mb. It supports up to two Pent 2 300 processors. Will Mandrake 9 make use of that 2nd cpu? I want to start learning Linux so I thought this would be a good way to start. I want to run an IRC chat server prog. Am curious to know if the IRCD prog will make use of the 2nd cpu too. Any help would be appreciated

Well just see if you can compile SMP support in the kernel, i am sure you can...and it should be a breeze with Mandrake 9.0

Well, GT compiling a kernel might be a breeze for a few of you more advanced users but for newbies like me and delta5, it's not just that simple. I'd like to think that Mandy might make use of the SMP by default, as this would really hinder a single CPU system by enabling it right up front.

Since you are wanting to learn linux, I would like to suggest checkin out a tutorial over at www.linux.org where they teach you some basic command line usage, some file structure, and few other odds and ends that help make linux, linux. It's worth your time, and will really help if you do end up requiring a kernel rebuild (which there are some good how-to's out there on, some great threads here on, and if you have any additional questions, lots of great experts here to help you as well).

Cool
