Mandrake 10CE CS46xx no sound card
Two weeks gone trying to get this working so time to ask for help. Tried every google found with no result and rebuilt at least 3 times. Please, can anyone help get sound working so I don't have to go back to that other o/s!
System is old Dell Dimension 350 with onboard Crystal Soundfusion CS4610/12 - except for sound, runs perfectly! Using Mandrake 10CE, kernel 2.6.3-4mdk, and ALSA 1.0.2c. BIOS settings - PnP O/S set to NO and onboard sound enabled. Sound hardware okay, works with XP. Problem is no sound in any apps - CS46xx card detected on ALSA startup on boot or on restart but mixer startup fails with no sound card error. After that no sound applications work, eg alsamixer gives dreaded "snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such device" etc. Some outputs below - don't want to overload info but I think this is most relevant ________________________ lspci -vv returns following: 00:0b.0 Multimedia audio controller: Cirrus Logic CS 4610/11 [CrystalClear Sound Fusion Audio Accelerator] (rev 01) Subsystem: Intel Corp.: Unknown device 8080 Control: I/O- Mem+ BusMaster+ SpecCycle- MemWINV- VGASnoop- ParErr- Step ping- SERR+ FastB2B- Status: Cap- 66Mhz- UDF- FastB2B- ParErr- DEVSEL=medium >TAbort- <TAbort - <MAbort- >SERR- <PERR- Latency: 64 (1000ns min, 6000ns max) Interrupt: pin A routed to IRQ 11 Region 0: Memory at f4100000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=4K] Region 1: Memory at f4000000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=1M] __________________________________________________________ aadebug returns following: ALSA Audio Debug v0.0.8 - Sat Jul 17 22:06:25 BST 2004 Kernel ---------------------------------------------------- Linux localhost 2.6.3-4mdk #1 Tue Mar 2 07:26:13 CET 2004 i686 unknown unknown GNU/Linux Loaded Modules -------------------------------------------- snd-seq-oss 31232 0 snd-seq-midi-event 7552 1 snd-seq-oss snd-seq 51024 4 snd-seq-oss,snd-seq-midi-event snd-pcm-oss 51812 0 snd-mixer-oss 17952 1 snd-pcm-oss snd-cs46xx 86088 0 snd-rawmidi 23616 1 snd-cs46xx snd-seq-device 8008 3 snd-seq-oss,snd-seq,snd-rawmidi snd-ac97-codec 58148 1 snd-cs46xx snd-pcm 93156 2 snd-pcm-oss,snd-cs46xx snd-timer 24484 2 snd-seq,snd-pcm snd-page-alloc 11972 2 snd-cs46xx,snd-pcm snd 52484 11 snd-seq-oss,snd-seq-midi-event,snd-seq,snd-pcm-oss,snd-mixer-oss,snd-cs46xx,snd-rawmidi,snd-seq-device,snd-ac97-codec,snd-pcm,snd-timer Proc Config ----------------------------------------------- CONFIG_SND=m CONFIG_SND_SEQUENCER=m CONFIG_SND_SEQ_DUMMY=m CONFIG_SND_OSSEMUL=y CONFIG_SND_MIXER_OSS=m CONFIG_SND_PCM_OSS=m CONFIG_SND_SEQUENCER_OSS=y CONFIG_SND_RTCTIMER=m CONFIG_SND_DUMMY=m CONFIG_SND_VIRMIDI=m CONFIG_SND_MTPAV=m CONFIG_SND_SERIAL_U16550=m CONFIG_SND_MPU401=m CONFIG_SND_AD1816A=m CONFIG_SND_AD1848=m CONFIG_SND_CS4231=m CONFIG_SND_CS4232=m CONFIG_SND_CS4236=m CONFIG_SND_ES968=m CONFIG_SND_ES1688=m CONFIG_SND_ES18XX=m CONFIG_SND_GUSCLASSIC=m CONFIG_SND_GUSEXTREME=m CONFIG_SND_GUSMAX=m CONFIG_SND_INTERWAVE=m CONFIG_SND_INTERWAVE_STB=m CONFIG_SND_OPTI92X_AD1848=m CONFIG_SND_OPTI92X_CS4231=m CONFIG_SND_OPTI93X=m CONFIG_SND_SB8=m CONFIG_SND_SB16=m CONFIG_SND_SBAWE=m CONFIG_SND_SB16_CSP=y CONFIG_SND_WAVEFRONT=m CONFIG_SND_ALS100=m CONFIG_SND_AZT2320=m CONFIG_SND_CMI8330=m CONFIG_SND_DT019X=m CONFIG_SND_OPL3SA2=m CONFIG_SND_SGALAXY=m CONFIG_SND_SSCAPE=m CONFIG_SND_MSND_PINNACLE=m CONFIG_SND_ALI5451=m CONFIG_SND_AZT3328=m CONFIG_SND_BT87X=m CONFIG_SND_CS46XX=m CONFIG_SND_CS46XX_NEW_DSP=y CONFIG_SND_CS4281=m CONFIG_SND_EMU10K1=m CONFIG_SND_KORG1212=m CONFIG_SND_NM256=m CONFIG_SND_RME32=m CONFIG_SND_RME96=m CONFIG_SND_RME9652=m CONFIG_SND_HDSP=m CONFIG_SND_TRIDENT=m CONFIG_SND_YMFPCI=m CONFIG_SND_ALS4000=m CONFIG_SND_CMIPCI=m CONFIG_SND_ENS1370=m CONFIG_SND_ENS1371=m CONFIG_SND_ES1938=m CONFIG_SND_ES1968=m CONFIG_SND_MAESTRO3=m CONFIG_SND_FM801=m CONFIG_SND_ICE1712=m CONFIG_SND_ICE1724=m CONFIG_SND_INTEL8X0=m CONFIG_SND_SONICVIBES=m CONFIG_SND_VIA82XX=m CONFIG_SND_VX222=m CONFIG_SND_PDPLUS=m CONFIG_SND_AU8810=m CONFIG_SND_AU8820=m CONFIG_SND_AU8830=m CONFIG_SND_MIXART=m CONFIG_SND_DARLA20=m CONFIG_SND_DARLA24=m CONFIG_SND_GINA20=m CONFIG_SND_GINA24=m CONFIG_SND_LAYLA24=m CONFIG_SND_MIA=m CONFIG_SND_USB_AUDIO=m CONFIG_SND_USB_USX2Y=m CONFIG_SND_VXPOCKET=m CONFIG_SND_VXP440=m CONFIG_SND_PDAUDIOCF=m Modprobe Conf --------------------------------------------- alias char-major-116-* snd alias char-major-14-* soundcore alias /dev/dsp* snd-pcm-oss options snd device_mode=0666 alias snd-card-0 snd-cs46xx alias sound-slot-0 snd-cs46xx Proc Asound ----------------------------------------------- Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.2c (Thu Feb 05 15:41:49 2004 UTC). Fixed, thanks to reading the "what info to include" in the hardware forum!! If only I'd known about the 'dmesg' command before - turns out the kernel was failing on loading the cs46xx driver and suggested trying the cs4236 driver instead - and now everything works!! Something new every day :)
