Mandrake 10CE CS46xx no sound card

Two weeks gone trying to get this working so time to ask for help. Tried every google found with no result and rebuilt at least 3 times. Please, can anyone help get sound working so I don't have to go back to that other o/s!

System is old Dell Dimension 350 with onboard Crystal Soundfusion CS4610/12 - except for sound, runs perfectly! Using Mandrake 10CE, kernel 2.6.3-4mdk, and ALSA 1.0.2c. BIOS settings - PnP O/S set to NO and onboard sound enabled. Sound hardware okay, works with XP. Problem is no sound in any apps - CS46xx card detected on ALSA startup on boot or on restart but mixer startup fails with no sound card error. After that no sound applications work, eg alsamixer gives dreaded "snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such device" etc.

Some outputs below - don't want to overload info but I think this is most relevant

Sorry for all this info! Hopefully someone will see something I can't spot.

Thanks for reading this far :) Dave

Fixed, thanks to reading the "what info to include" in the hardware forum!! If only I'd known about the 'dmesg' command before - turns out the kernel was failing on loading the cs46xx driver and suggested trying the cs4236 driver instead - and now everything works!! Something new every day :)
