Mandrake 10 / Win2k Dual Boot Question/Issue/Problem...HELP!

Alright, this is quite the story to get to a semi-simple question, but bare with me, it'll only be a moment.

I have a dual booted Mandrake 10 Official / Win2k box at the moment, but my Win2k is quite messed up. Messed up to the point of no longer accepting that it has internet access, riddled with bizarre virii that it can't get rid of, etc. etc. I doubt the internet is because of the way I set up my Linux, but regardless....

My question is this. I want to reinstall my Win2k so that I can have a working Mandrake 10/Win2k dual boot as opposed to a Mandrake 10 with Win2k garbage boot. How can I reinstall my Win2k without affecting my Mandrake 10 install? I don't want to have to reinstall anything BUT the Win2k....is this possible? I can't merely reinstall Win2k over itself, as I surmise the virii would still be there....or would they? Either way, how would I go about doing it?

Secondly....would my having Linux start up my eth0/internet services at boot affect the internet access of my Win2k boot?

If that didn't make sense, please let me know....

In short, Mandrake on one drive, Win2k on another, need to reinstall Win2k because of virii/corruption. What to do/options please.

I would just spin the Windows disk and do a clean reinstall. I have done that in the past. It was awhile ago, I don't use windows much now. I was dual booting Windows XP and Mandrake 9.1. I reinstalled Windows with the CD's which came with the computer and it didn't touch Mandrake. I didn't even need to reinstall lilo. Of course, your milage may be different so prepare for the worst. Back everything up and prepare a boot floppy just incase. Good luck.

By clean reinstall, I would want to be formatting the drive first, to ensure the virii wouldn't be around....

But I'll try to just reinstall over itself....I don't see it doing anything but affecting itself.

So, after you reinstalled, it didn't bother touching the mbr? Everything was as before but with a working Windows huh? Hrm....

Suppose I'll do that....unless there are other opinions regarding the matter/advice.

No this would not effect you internet working on Win2k.

Are you talking about separate drives? Or separate partitions on the same drive? If they are on the same drive, then if you try to format the Win2k partition it might mess with Mandrake....sometimes windows trys to take up the full drive partition (don't know if this is intentional or not ) but it may not. I always make sure I install windows first and then put on Linux. You might want to try to just install your Win2K over top of itself without formating the partition....it you can do that. If not then just back up your Mandrake info and hope for the best

It they are on separate drives altogether then I don't see any problems.

Hope that helps.
