mandrake 10: problems with creative sb live+ alsa compile
i have linux mandrake 10.0 on my pc since 15 days and i'm a total noob in it. everything works fine except my audio: i hear nothing. I already looked for a post on it, and i found showthread.php?s=&threadid=178800 . I changed my modules.conf like they postedt there, and I tried to compile the latest alsa driiver but i get an error message:
[root@dummy alsa-driver-1.0.5a]# ./configure --with-cards=emu10k1 -- with-sequencer=yes;make;make install
configure: error: unrecognized option: --
Try `./configure --help' for more information.

./configure --with-cards=emu10k1 -- with-sequencer=yes;make;make install
should be ./configure --with-cards=emu10k1 -- with-sequencer=yes && make && make install
You can do the steps indipendantly, of course.
ALSA should be already installed on Mandrake. Before you go to any more grief, let me ask you: what kind of computer is it? If its a Gateway or Dell, you probably have their OEM crap card that has an unsupported chipset and you won't be able to get sound. I have a retail SB Live! gamer and it "just worked" but I have been trying to help another fellow LQer figure out this problem.
thank you. alsa is installed, but not properly i think. my soundcard is a creative soundblaster. i have already sound, but i have a 5.1 boxes, and only my 2 fronts work :-(. if anyone knows where i can change that... without compiling or .
You should have alsamixer as part of the install. If you can call it up, you may find the rear and center speakers and can fire them up....or try kmix if you have kde installed
