Mandrake 10 issue

I've installed makdrake 10 a few days ago, clean install, with no problems.Suddenly on startup i get prompted to configure my mouse and xserver fails to load on its own.I get command prompt where i can log in and type startx...from here everything works fine. This happens just the same on the 2.4 kernel just as 2.6.Can i fix it?

Please keep in mind that im newer than a newbie to linux,im all windowed out which lead me to give mandrake a try.The only other problem I've had with linux is what seems to be a dreaded pctel modem issue.I cant seem to get the right modules nor get any to install...but lets save that for another day.

You get this (the configure request) every time or just once, but the command line keeps comming back?
You may be able to fix this by changing the default runlevel to '5' (search).

i think i just fixed it....in the boot configuration, boot with gui login was unchecked.now that i checked it,it boots as it use too.Not sure what would have caused it to lose this setting though.
