mandrake 10 install problems

hey all,
Im having a strange error when I begin the install process of mandrake 10. I downloaded and burned the cd's and the 1st one boots fine and I get the intro screen to install mandrake. at this point it begins scanning for hardware and ask me to insert some floppy driver (no clue what its asking me for) However I dont have a floppy drive on this laptop so i choose no and get it to go on to the next step and this is when it freaks out. I get a message to the effect "cannot unpack something from ramdisk, installation cancelled, must reboot"

anyone have a clue??
im downloading the iso's over again as we speak and will burn them with a different cd burner and see if that does anything. Any help will be appreciated.

depending on the type of laptop (Dell's good for this one) you may have a scsi device it's trying to load but it can't because you don't have the driver. Some Cdrom's in laptops require this driver.

Your right, it looks like when its scanning for a scsi device, that is the point in which the problems start. How and where do I get this driver? I do have a dell inspiron 5100 and Im not sure which device is scsi.

go here: https://support.dell.com/productsele...seReferer=true

and enter your service tag #. From that point you can pick downloads by operating system. I couldn't find it there but you may get lucky with the service tag #.

Also, depending on the chipset it's asking for you might try here:

ftp://ftp.dell.com/scsi-non-raid/

I dont think dell has any linux drivers. I have looked before and i didnt seee any drivers for this computer in linux.

I also noticed that something was wierd with the iso files i downloaded. They were the wrong size, only 100 MB or so whihc is way too small. Im going to burn the new iso files again.

if you do need scsi support, there should be an option you can pass to the kernel when you start installation. when you get that first prompt something like

boot:

the default is bare.i or something, but there should be other kernels you can select with things like scsi support. if i remember correctly, in mandy you have to press F1 or something for help, then if you look around you should be able to find a list of kernels...
